Mr. Uche Nwamara

Uche Nwamara is a highly commercial legal expert with deep knowledge and proficiency in mergers and acquisitions, oil and gas law (across the value chain), financings (including project finance), and private equity, and with around 20 years’ working experience across three continents.

Uche currently serves as General Counsel and Company Secretary of Midwestern Oil and Gas Limited, where he supervises the legal and compliance functions of the Company.

Prior to joining Midwestern, Uche worked at First Hydrocarbon Nigeria (FHN), an Africa-focused upstream exploration and production company, for 13 years, the last 11 years as General Counsel and Company Secretary of the Company, with additional responsibility for the Company’s commercial, supply chain, and compliance functions. While at FHN, Uche served as deal team lead for a Management buyout of the Company from Afren Plc, a UK-listed energy company in Administration, and helped lead a successful turnaround of the business that allowed investors in the Company, including Management, to exit the business at a valuation multiple in excess of ten times initial investment.

Earlier in his career, following a stint in academia, Uche worked at leading law firms in the United States and the United Kingdom, most latterly with the London office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where he garnered significant experience in corporate law, advising private equity funds buyout transactions in multiple jurisdictions and across sectors.

Uche is a Summa Cum Laude (First Class Honours) graduate in History and Classics of Howard University in Washington DC, and holds a Masters and a law degree (Juris Doctor) from Harvard, where he was an editor of the International Law Journal, and a recipient of the Harvard-Nigerian Fellowship for Distinguished African Scholars, a fellowship reserved for scholars of African origin at Harvard of particularly high achievement. Uche serves as Trustee/Director of EdVigor Inc., a US-based charity dedicated to the training of primary school teachers in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Uche is an amateur violinist and pianist and enjoys reading historical fiction and doing word puzzles. He lives in Lagos, Nigeria, with his wife and two children.
